Hand-set type, ink, and the slow art of letterpress

Megan Lunsford is a letterpress printer dedicated to preserving and sharing the traditional craft of hand-set type and relief printing. Through her Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts apprenticeship at the Old Time Printshop at the Ozark Folk Center State Park, under Master Printer Troy Odom, she gained hands-on experience in the tools, techniques, and traditions that have shaped the craft of letterpress printing for generations.

Today, Megan works with historic printing equipment and traditional printing methods, preserving techniques that were once common in print shops across America. While grounded in traditional practices, she also embraces modern technologies and contemporary approaches that help keep the craft accessible and relevant in the twenty-first century.

Her work reflects a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship, ingenuity, and cultural significance of letterpress printing, a trade that helped preserve local histories, share community news, and tell everyday stories long before the digital age. Through demonstrations and educational programs, Megan enjoys introducing audiences to the sights, sounds, and tactile experience of traditional printing while showing how historic crafts can continue to evolve and inspire new generations of makers.
