Chy'Na Nellon, Agnolia Gay, and Agnolia Johnson

An Arkansas educator, a University of Arkansas scholar, and a young apprentice carrying forward the African American gospel tradition of the late Georgia Hudson.

Three voices, one Arkansas lineage of song and story.

Agnolia Gay is an educator, poet, performer, and leader. Gay taught for over twenty years, most at Little Rock Central High, and is passionate about sharing her love and expertise of the performing arts. She currently works as a Park Ranger for Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site.

Chy’Na Nellon is a Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Nellon works as the Assistant Director of Learning Innovation and Assessment at the U of A, and is the co-founder of Cultural Immersion Media.

Agnolia Johnson is an eighth grader in the Fayetteville Public School District. She is the author of A Little Different: Somewhere on the Spectrum, written with her mother Chy’Na. Agnolia apprenticed with her grandmother, Georgia Hudson, in the tradition of African American gospel before Georgia’s death in 2025.
