Mosaic Templars Presents: Braiding Hair, Intertwining Community

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center leads a hands-on session on braiding as an enduring African American tradition of art, identity, and community.

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center brings a hands-on session exploring one of the most enduring traditions of African American community life: hair braiding as a form of art, identity, and connection.

For generations, the practice of braiding has been a site of conversation, care, and cultural memory across Black communities. The Mosaic Templars team uses this session to demonstrate techniques, share the historical and cultural significance of braiding traditions in Arkansas and beyond, and invite festival-goers into a conversation about how everyday acts of beauty and care carry meaning across time.

Part demonstration, part dialogue, this session reflects the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center’s mission to preserve, interpret, and celebrate African American history and culture in Arkansas.
