Classical Indian Dance with Sangamitra Reshmy

Sangamitra Reshmy presents Bharatanatyam, the classical South Indian dance tradition, performed live on the festival floor.

Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest classical dance traditions in the world, a South Indian art form that uses rhythm, expression, hand gestures, and storytelling to bring narratives from millennia of Indian culture into physical form.

For this performance, Guru Anupriya Krishnan and her apprentice Sangamitra Reshmy take the festival stage for a presentation that demonstrates both the rigor and the joy of the tradition. Sangu Reshmy began studying Bharatanatyam at age 8 under Guru Krishnan and has performed across Ohio, Arkansas, and on international virtual stages. She is currently pursuing a Junior Diploma in Bharatanatyam and is an incoming freshman at the University of Arkansas, where she will continue her dance practice and teaching.
